Several months ago, my friend Alecia and I had the idea to have a combined birthday party for our Robs. I felt bad that Rob and I decided NOT to host a roller skating party this year, and so a dance party seemed like the perfect solution. Right? In October Rob mentioned that he had a 'great idea' for a song called "Seventy-Five" about the combined ages of the Robs. Honestly, I told him that I didn't think it sounded very funny at all (gasp! I'm such a terrible wife). I later ate my words, don't worry.
This secret project took over the next month. A lot of grand ideas got cut along the way, but I think it turned out pretty perfect. If you haven't already watched the video, you can follow this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrpJ0Rn3pKk
Helping these two make this video was downright hilarious at times. The first day of filming was really hot, and one of the guys would lie down on a longboard to film the other guy as I pulled them down our street. Plenty of our neighbors were very interested in our project and we got lots of laughs. I wish someone had gotten some footage of the filming! Here are a couple of still shots:
"Old Rob" made me laugh (although it was somewhat creepy). He walked and talked like an old man the entire night. It was so funny walking into Albertsons at 9:30pm.
I've posting a few of my favorite clips. This first one was in Albertsons. The store was almost completely empty, but one shopper walked by and returned to watch and it made the guys crack up. She said something like, "That is awesome!!"
We did some filming at the home of some friends in the ward that have a cow (the cow's name is Sirloin). Here are a couple clips of the guys dancing as we were about to leave. I think you can tell by our laughter how much we were entertained...
It rained non-stop for two days before our party which was quite stressful. The rain stopped on Saturday afternoon and I thought we were in the clear, and then it started up again around 5pm. Luckily the rain stopped just as the party started and we were able to have the dancing, s'mores making, and watch the video outside as planned. Alecia's mom helped with the food and had everything displayed on old records which was really a cute idea. My pictures are dark (and not great), but you get the idea. I'm guessing we had around 80-90 people there, and everyone seemed to have a great time, although it was mostly just us and Alecia's family that danced. The only other awkward part of the night was that when we gathered everyone outside to watch the video on the huge screen (projector on wall), it took about 15 minutes for it to buffer (it only took a few seconds the night before when we tested it). Oh well. I nervously asked if anyone wanted a beverage and then did a little tap dance to entertain the crowd. It was such a relief when it finally worked! After the video was over and the cake was served, I could finally relax and just have fun dancing.
On Rob's actual birthday (Monday night), we took the kids to Texas Roadhouse which they loved, of course.
I sure love my Rob, and look forward to the day when are celebrating his actual 75th birthday together. Don't get me wrong though, it can take it's sweet old time getting here.
